Sarah Al-Shaikh is joining KTRK-TV ABC 13 Houston television (ABC O&O) from KXAN Austin. She also worked at WLNS 6 in Lansing Michigan. She’s a Houston native.
Ben Dobson Named WPIX New York TV News Director
WPIX, New York’s CW affiliate owned by Mission Broadcasting and operated by Nexstar, today appointed Ben Dobson its next news director. He will assume the role on July 24.
Dobson brings extensive experience in newsroom leadership and content strategy, most recently serving as news director and station manager for Nexstar Media Group’s Washington, D.C., properties, WDVM and WDCW. In that role, he led the development and launch of DC News Now, a multi-platform news brand delivering more than 70 hours of locally focused news each week. He also oversaw marketing and operational functions for both stations.
WKMG News 6 Orlando TV celebrates anchor
WKMG-TV Orlando television celebrates anchor Bridgett Ellison after 14-years on the job at the Orlando TV station. Lindsey Sablan leaving WINK-TV in Ft Myers television
Lindsey Sablan is leaving Fort Myers, Florida CBS affiliate WINK after more than 11 years. She started working at WINK as an investigative and consumer reporter in 2014. “There are simply no words to express my gratitude to WINK News, the team who gets our show on air every morning and all of you,” she wrote on social media. “Our community is one-of-a-kind and we’ve been through a lot together. Thank you for always being so kind to me.”
Ritter steps down from WABC 5pm
Veteran WABC New York TV anchor Bill Ritter stepped away from the 5 p.m. anchor desk at the New York ABC owned station yesterday. He will be replaced by the man who replaced him at 11 in March, Mike Marza.
CBS Atlanta Affiliation Moving To WUPA
A new CBS affiliate for Atlanta Television. The affiliation is changing from Gray’s WANF to CBS-owned WUPA on Aug. 16. It will also include launch of CBS News Atlanta streaming channel.
WESH 2 Orlando TV adds 7pm News
Hearst’s NBC Television affiliate WESH-TV 2 News Orlando, Fl., will launch a new half-hour weeknight newscast at 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 11. “Local news continues to be the most trusted source for information,” said John Soapes, president and general manager. “Adding WESH 2 News at 7:00 p.m. will provide Central Florida viewers with another opportunity to get local news and weather at a time that is convenient to them.” WESH was recently honored with three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Breaking News, Sports Reporting and Overall Excellence for Large Market Television. In adding the 7 p.m. newscast, WESH will produce 65.5 hours of local news per week — more than any other local broadcast station in Central Florida, according to the station.
Teri Hornstein will anchor Weekend at WFOR in Miami
Teri Hornstein has been promoted to weekend morning anchor at CBS Miami WFOR-TV.
The promotion comes less than a year after she joined the CBS owned station in September 2022 as a news reporter and fill-in anchor.
Before that, she worked the previous five years at WPEC in West Palm Beach, Florida for five years as an anchor and reporter. She’s also worked at WBBH NBC 2 in Fort Myers, Florida. Hornstein started her career at the station as an associate producer before joining WFXG in Augusta, Georgia.
Fox Weather hits the road
Fox Weather will debut a new segment series on July 13th called Cruisin’ Across America. It will be hosted by correspondent Robert Ray and will take viewers from coast-to-coast spotlighting areas that have been impacted by major weather events while highlighting the local culture, food and communities. It will kick off in Jacksonville, Florida and then make stops in New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson, Tombstone and finish up in Twentynine Palms, Cabazon and Santa Monica.
