Nick Mantas joins KPRC 2 Houston

Nick Mantas is coming on board to Graham Media’s KPRC-TV in Houston from the group’s sister station KSAT in San Antonio. He leaves KSAT-TV on August 29th and joins KPRC 2 in Houston TV on September 2nd. He came to Texas from Lansing, Michigan where he was a reporter at WLNS 6 News.  He got is start in Abilene at KTXS.

MSNBC announces name change to MS NOW

Changing its mind about keeping its name, the MSNBC news network said Monday it will become My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW for short, as part of its corporate divorce from NBC.

The TV network, which appeals to liberal audiences with a stable of personalities including Rachel Maddow, Ari Melber and Nicole Wallace, has been building its own separate news division from NBC News. It will also remove NBC’s peacock symbol from its logo as part of the change, which will take effect later this year.

WXMI in Grand Rapids, Michigan becomes latest “Scripps Cast” station

Michigan Television station WXMI-TV in the Grand Rapids TV market has become the lates Scripps station to roll out what is referred to as “Scripps Cast.” The neighborhood news model is something that about a dozen Scripps stations have rolled out over the last two years. The station group said the neighborhood news format was informed by research and gets away from the “live for the sake of being live” nature of news and, instead, focuses on quality, community-based journalism. This means viewers will see more journalists out newsgathering on the street, instead of sitting behind the anchor desk. Neighborhood news stories are also more frequently introduced by a reporter out in the field instead of by an anchor.

Ben Dobson Named WPIX New York TV News Director

WPIX, New York’s CW affiliate owned by Mission Broadcasting and operated by Nexstar, today appointed Ben Dobson its next news director. He will assume the role on July 24.

Dobson brings extensive experience in newsroom leadership and content strategy, most recently serving as news director and station manager for Nexstar Media Group’s Washington, D.C., properties, WDVM and WDCW. In that role, he led the development and launch of DC News Now, a multi-platform news brand delivering more than 70 hours of locally focused news each week. He also oversaw marketing and operational functions for both stations.

WKMG News 6 Orlando TV celebrates anchor

WKMG-TV Orlando television celebrates anchor Bridgett Ellison after 14-years on the job at the Orlando TV station.  Ellison is signing off and shared this message with the audience: “It’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter.  It has been a great honor to cover news for our community for over 14 years with the News 6 team.”
