Jennifer Peñate Joins WCVB Boston TV

Jennifer Peñate will join Hearst Television ABC affiliate WCVB Boston Television as weekend evening anchor and general assignment reporter beginning June 28.  The announcement was made today by WCVB President & General Manager Kyle I. Grimes and News Director Margaret Cronan.  Peñate comes to Boston from WFLA-WTTA Tampa TV. Her roles included anchoring English-language newscasts on WTTA and WFLA, in addition to anchoring and creating WTTA’s Spanish language newscast Noticias Tampa Hoy, where she also served as the newscast’s managing editor.

NewsNation To Host Presidential Town Hall With Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Nexstar Media’s NewsNation cable news network will host a live town hall with Democratic Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday, June 28, from 9 to 10:30 p.m. ET. Moderated by anchor Elizabeth Vargas, Kennedy will take questions in front of an audience of voters in partnership with the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College. Additionally, voters in the key states of South Carolina and New Hampshire will have the opportunity to question the candidate.  Originating from NewsNation’s headquarters in Chicago, the 90-minute broadcast will mark Kennedy’s, first town hall with a national news network. The event will be followed by a special edition of Cuomo, anchored by Chris Cuomo and an encore presentation of the town hall will be available later that evening at 11 p.m. ET.

Brittany Johnson Joins WCVB Boston TV Investigative Team

ABC affiliate WCVB Boston television is adding Emmy-winning journalist Brittany Johnson to its investigative unit, 5 Investigates, beginning June 12. She will join investigative reporters Karen Anderson and Mike Beaudet.  A skilled investigative journalist, Johnson comes to Boston from Hearst Television’s KCRA Sacramento, Calif., where she was an investigative reporter and primary fill-in anchor.

Philadelphia TV, San Francisco TV and Tampa TV get CW

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. has announced that its owned and operated television stations in PHL 17 WPHL TV Philadelphia television, KRON-TV San Francisco television and WTTA-TV The Great 38 in Tampa television will all become CW Network affiliates on September 1, 2023.  “The addition of these Nexstar-owned stations as affiliates will bring the number of Nexstar and partner-owned CW stations to 40, covering 38% of U.S. TV Households—equivalent to or greater than the local owned and operated station presence of any of the other major network owners,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.

San Francisco TV KRON’s Pam Moore Retires

Pam Moore, veteran journalist, and evening anchor for KRON, Nexstar’s MyNetworkTV affiliate in San Francisco Television, announces her retirement from the evening anchor desk.  Moore has been anchoring KRON news since March 1991, reporting and anchoring across the station, kron4.com, and streaming service KRONon.

Jonathan Martin joins 11Alive WXIA Atlanta TV

Jonathan Martin tells mikemcguff.com exclusively that he is joining 11Alive WXIA Atlanta television as a weekday anchor staring in August 2023.  “I was born and raised in Atlanta, and returning home as an anchor has long been my career goal,” Martin told mikemcguff.com. “I’m just grateful everything aligned and I’ll get the chance to soak up a lot more time with family.”  Martin, who signed off from the evening anchor desk of FOX 26 KRIV Houston TV  last April, had one last big Houston celebration Thursday night at the The Ivy House to celebrate the city and friends he made since coming to H-Town in May 2016.

CNBC adds Emily Wilkins in Washington D.C.

CNBC announced Monday morning that Emily Wilkins is joining the network as a correspondent in the Washington, D.C. bureau covering Congress, key regulatory issues and policies that impact American businesses and the economy.  Wilkins arrives at CNBC from Bloomberg Government, where she covered Congress with a focus on House leadership. She previously covered education and labor for both Bloomberg Government and CQ Roll Call.

ABC World News Tonight Tops Ratings

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir is the top-rated national evening newscast yet again.  For the week leading into Memorial Day, ABC News’ evening juggernaut averaged 7.40 million total viewers and more than 1.14 million A25-54 viewers. That’s according to live plus same day data from Nielsen for the week beginning May 22, 2023. WNT marked its ninth consecutive week as the most-watched regularly-scheduled U.S. show across broadcast and cable, and has now defeated its evening news competition from NBC and CBS 234 of the past 235 weeks in average total viewers—and 163 of the last 165 weeks among Adults 25-54.

Tiffany Justice joins KRON 4 San Francisco TV

Tiffany Justice has headed west as of May 2023 to KRON 4 San Francisco television after leaving FOX 26 Houston TV KRIV in November 2022.  Justice joined KRIV in 2019 from her hometown station KUTV 2 Salt Lake City, Utah where she had been a reporter and fill-in anchor starting in 2017.  A University of Utah grad, Justice previously worked for KOCO5 News Oklahoma City as a weekend morning anchor and reporter.  The Rocky Mountain Emmy Award winner began her TV news career at KTVZ NewsChannel 21 Central Oregon as a producer/reporter/anchor.
