Jaysha Patel Named Morning Reporter at KABC in Los Angeles

Jaysha Patel has been named morning reporter for Los Angeles TV ABC owned station KABC.  Patel announced the news on social media by saying she is “so excited” for the new role reporting at 4, 5, 6 and 11 a.m. Monday though Friday. She has been working as a community journalist at the station since April 2021.

Extra TV show renewed for 30th Season!

The syndicated daytime series Extra will break the 9,000 episode mark with the renewal, which sees it cleared in over 75% of the U.S. Extra has been renewed by Fox Television Stations, which took over from the NBC stations in 2019, Nexstar Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group, TEGNA, Hearst, CBS, Scripps Broadcasting, Weigel Broadcasting, Sunbeam Television, Draper Media, Entravision, Circle City Broadcasting, McKinnon Broadcasting, News-Press & Gazette Company, Waterman Broadcasting and Marks Radio Group.

Dallas TV gets Dylan Federico from Ft Myers Television

Dylan Federico has joined the FOX 4 KDFW Dallas – Fort Worth weather team from WINK News Fort Myers, Florida.  The new North Texas meteorologist will work day side and occasionally fill-in on morning newscast “Good Day!”  Federico made headlines while working through 2022’s Hurricane Ian at WINK in Fort Myers and filming a cat outside of the building while the building’s doors were locked instead of attempting to rescue it. The storm surge flooded the first floor of the WINK studios.  He was previously the weekend meteorologist for WTVM News Leader 9 Columbus, Georgia.  The Mississippi State University grad interned with FOX 8 WVUE New Orleans.

Bill Barajas to Anchor Weekend Evenings at KPRC in Houston

KPRC Houston TV reporter Bill Barajas has been promoted to weekend evening anchor.  He replaces Jonathan Martinez who left to work at WOAI in San Antonio in 2021.  His father Mike retired from KRIV in Houston ABC 13 in 2011 after 24 years there, his brother John Paul Barajas is a reporter at KSAT in San Antonio, and his cousin Erik Barajas is an evening anchor on KTRK in Houston. Both of the Barajas brothers have also worked for KRGV in the Rio Grande Valley.

Telemundo’s Hoy Día adds fourth hour

Noticias Telemundo announced today the addition of a fourth hour of programming for its morning show, Hoy Día.  The new fourth hour will cover the latest entertainment news, offer cooking segments to enjoy the diversity of Latin cuisine and much more. The show will also expand its Sin Censura segment with more in-depth coverage of the latest happenings on the hit reality show, La Casa de los Famosos. It appears this hour will closely resemble Today with Hoda and Jenna, which is the fourth hour of NBC News’ Today franchise.

Washington DC TV Reporter April Ryan joins MSNBC

The Grio Washington Bureau Chief and White House Correspondent April Ryan has joined MSNBC as a contributor, the network announced Tuesday morning. Ryan will make appearances across MSNBC programming sharing her latest reporting and analysis from Washington, D.C.

Elizabeth Vargas to Anchor Evening Newscast on NewsNation

Elizabeth Vargas thinks there’s room for a new evening newscast.  “I think a lot of people feel like they’re just being ignored or they’re turned off by the extreme nature of just one side, or the two extremes arguing with each other,” Vargas tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I think there’s a way to cover what’s happening right now in this country and around the world in a smart way. That doesn’t devolve into shouting matches or, you know, political talking points that aren’t really even related in many cases, to the events that we’re covering.”  She will launch her new show Elizabeth Vargas Reports on NewsNation Monday during the critical evening news window of 6 to 7 p.m. News Nation is a new cable news channel on what was WGN America.

Fox News hits 85 Consecutive Quarters at Number 1

Fox News Channel has hit 85 consecutive quarters as the highest-rated cable network in prime time.  It finished the first quarter of 2023 in first place drawing an average audience of 2.088 million viewers.  MSNBC had 1.110 million and CNN 568,000.  All the networks saw a year-over-year decline in total audience in prime time.  Among viewers 25-54 Fox was number one in prime time with an average audience of 259,000.  That was down 40% from a year ago.

WTAE Primetime Special Examines Rail Safety In Pittsburgh

It has been almost two months since a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, changing its residents’ lives forever. What if something like this happens 40 miles down the track – in Pittsburgh? Chronicle: Trouble on the Tracks will examine these questions in detail.  WTAE, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, is airing a special report, Chronicle: Trouble on the Tracks on Wednesday, March 29,  at 8 p.m. that explores the recent East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment and how Pittsburgh should prepare should something like that happen there.

LA 1 Spectrum News So Cal gets new morning anchor

Spectrum News 1 in Southern California said today that journalist Seth Lemon will join the network as morning anchor in January 2023.  Lemon will co-anchor Your Mornings on Spectrum News 1 alongside anchor Giselle Fernandez. He will make his on-air debut on Jan. 9.  A veteran anchor and reporter, Lemon has more than a decade of experience in broadcast and digital news. He recently was managing editor for digital platforms at KNX News radio in Los Angeles, curating the station’s social media and web presence.
