Two WNBC New York television journalists are being promoted to new roles, starting in mid-June. Current weekend news anchor Gilma Avalos will move to a weekday schedule and co-anchor WNBC’s 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekday newscasts alongside Adam Kuperstein. She will also appear on the 1 p.m. daily edition of News 4 New York, available exclusively on the NBC New York News streaming channel. Veteran reporter and substitute news anchor Rana Novini will move into Avalos’ role as the solo weekend news anchor. She will lead the station’s 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays and continue as a general assignment reporter during the week.

José Griñan announced his retirement from FOX 26 Houston Television KRIV after 30 years with the station. The station says he will continue to anchor mornings with Melissa Wilson at FOX 26 until the end of June 2023. “We will certainly miss him,” Wilson commented on the Mike McGuff Facebook page. “What a career,” FOX 26 morning anchor Sally MacDonald posted on Facebook. “Can’t imagine our mornings without him. Congratulations Jose!” Griñan was the first anchor on FOX 26’s morning newscast back in August 1993, back when the studios were located where Central Market is today on Westheimer. He came to Houston from KDFW 4 Dallas-Fort Worth (before it was a FOX station) where he was an anchor/reporter. Griñan’s bio says that he was one of the first journalists on scene of the Branch Davidian siege near Waco. Previously he served as a correspondent/host of “Crime Watch Tonight” and freelance reporter for CNN. Griñan was in Miami at WTVJ 6 Miami TV and WCKT Miami Television (now WSVN 7) with time at the Satellite News Channel in between.

Dallas Television gets a new anchor/reporter. Amelia Jones joins FOX 4 Dallas – Fort Worth Television as a reporter on May 8, 2023. Jones comes to FOX 4 from FOX owned sister-station FOX 6 WITI Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she was a fill-in anchor/reporter since October 2020. She previously worked as a morning news reporter for NBC 15 WMTV Madison, Wisconsin.

Fox News is still holding tryouts for the 8pm time slot left vacant when it fired Tucker Carlson last month. And the latest conservative media star to get a shot at what used to be the network’s most valuable primetime real estate is former Trump press secretary, and current Fox News host, Kayleigh McEnany. McEnany will anchor the 8-9 p.m. hour for at least a week, starting Monday, May 8. It could go longer.

Fox Corporation’s local television broadcast group Fox Television Stations (FTS) has launched a new streaming app that collates live news feeds from its local stations in one place. The app, called Fox Local, offers streaming news from three Fox-owned stations — WAGA Fox 5 Atlanta; WTTG Fox 5 DC in Washington, D.C.; and WJBK Fox 2 Detroit — with plans to support live news feeds from Fox stations in Austin, Fox 32 Chicago , Fox 4 Dallas, Fox 26 Houston, Fox 11 Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Fox 5 NY in New York, Fox 35 Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Fox 2 San Francisco, Seattle and Fox 13 Tampa Bay in the coming weeks.

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki is back with NBC Sports working his third Kentucky Derby as insights analyst this coming Saturday, May 6. Kornacki is a NBC News national political correspondent. Among his responsibilities is manning the network’s Big Board on Election Night. However, Kornacki also contributes to NBC Sports’ programming, namely the network’s Sunday Night Football franchise during the fall and its live coverage of horse racing, including the Kentucky Derby, in the spring.

NewsNation and WPIX New York PIX 11 Television, both part of Nexstar Media Group, unveiled two new studios on Tuesday at The Daily News Building on 42nd Street in New York, where the network and station both operate from. NewsNation expanded to 24 hours, Monday through Friday, on April 24, and WPIX-TV marks 75 years on the air this year in New York Television.

Justina Latimer is joining KPRC 2 Houston as its traffic anchor on Monday, May 1, 2023 from WSMV4 Nashville, Tennessee, taking over the role from Anavid Reyes who recently left. Latimer joined WSMV4 as a reporter in March 2021. Before that, she was a reporter for WTEN 10 Albany, New York. She comes to KPRC with traffic anchor experience from DC News Now Washington, DC WDVM-TV. That station is where a former KPRC 2 morning anchor works now. She also worked as the West Virginia reporter for statewide newscast “West Virginia Tonight.” The Towson University graduate and National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) member interned with FOX 5 DC WTTG.

Former President Trump is scheduled to participate in a CNN presidential town hall next Wednesday in New Hampshire, the network announced Monday. Trump will take questions from New Hampshire Republicans and undeclared voters who plan to vote in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Sinclair will fill the news slots on KTVL-TV with its The National Desk newscasts. “The National Desk, which provides real-time national and regional news from Sinclair’s television stations across the US, will air during KTVL’s regularly scheduled news time periods, with an opportunity for local news cut-ins in the newscast,” according to a statement from Sinclair. The National Desk airs on many of the group’s television stations across the country.
