Michigan Television station WXMI-TV in the Grand Rapids TV market has become the lates Scripps station to roll out what is referred to as “Scripps Cast.” The neighborhood news model is something that about a dozen Scripps stations have rolled out over the last two years. The station group said the neighborhood news format was informed by research and gets away from the “live for the sake of being live” nature of news and, instead, focuses on quality, community-based journalism. This means viewers will see more journalists out newsgathering on the street, instead of sitting behind the anchor desk. Neighborhood news stories are also more frequently introduced by a reporter out in the field instead of by an anchor.
